An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, September 10 from 6 - 8pm coinciding with the South End First Friday celebration. The public is cordially invited to attend.

My first solo exhibit Respite: Patterns and Places Real and Imagined, combines pixels with traditional fine art materials. The hybrid artworks incorporate digital imagery and photography with acrylics, collage, and other media to create layers of texture and abstract meaning. Diverse materials are combined through an intuitive process of experimental and alternative printmaking techniques. In each piece there is a unique surface, and a synergy between materials not evident until all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place.

After spending years designing marketing communications pieces mired in messaging, I find respite from spin in these abstract nature pieces. Everywhere I look, there are signs, directions, calls for action. Buy this, write your senator about that. Join our cause. Save the
gulf (OK, this I happen to agree with). It's overwhelming. So when I create, I want to make art that allows my eyes to follow their own path, to formulate my own thoughts, and find my own meaning. I want to get lost in a visual where I can hear myself think, where there is no specific agenda.

Sun, 18 Jul 2010 19:44:17 CDT SoWa Art Walk Weekend, May 15 & 16

I'm feeling a little sad that I won't be participating in the SoWa Open Market this year, but am excited that my co-op gallery Galatea Fine Arts is on the SoWa Art Walk, this weekend May 15 & 16. I'll be sharing a space with fellow Boston Handmade artist Jessica Burko. Beacon Hill Art Walk says of their event:

The Art Walk is an annual event that takes place on the first Sunday in June, throughout the nooks and crannies of Beacon Hill. Residents open up their private gardens, alleyways, and courtyards and allow artists to display and sell their artwork. It is a chance for visitors to tour for free the private spaces of Beacon Hill while viewing original artwork. Thousands attend each year. It is a popular event in the neighborhood, with a festive atmosphere and volunteer musicians playing in various gardens throughout the day.

Sounds fantastic! I hope you'll put it on your calendar for summer.

Sat, 27 Mar 2010 22:43:56 CDT Mixed Media 2010 at Lynn Arts Gallery
Mixed Media 2010

February 1 - March 12, 2010

Lynn Arts Gallery, Lynn, MA

Opening Reception: Saturday, February 6, 2010, 2-4 pm

Three of my works entitled "Hidden Spaces" have been accepted into this exhibit, curated by one of my favorite art bloggers, Joanne Mattera of Joanne Mattera Art Blog.
