ABOUT THE ARTIST

Christine O'Brien is a digital mixed media artist. Her hybrid collages incorporate digital imagery with acrylics, photography and found items to create layers of texture and abstract meaning. She enjoys blending traditional fine art with alternative printmaking processes and digital monoprints.

She began her artistic career in 1997 as a commercial graphic designer, creating print and online marketing materials for over 10 years. As such, her use of digital tools like Photoshop and Illustrator play a prominent part into her work. In 2007 she left the corporate world to focus solely on art, and has since participated in several group shows and juried exhibitions. She is a member of the South End gallery Galatea, the Salem Arts Association, and Boston Handmade.

O'Brien received a B.S. in Public Relations and a minor in Graphic Design from Salem State College in 2001, and taught "Computer Production in Communications" at Salem State College for several years after graduating.
